Your taxes and your coverage, handled by the same family

Simple Tax is the tax practice alongside SimpleCare Insurance, both part of Simple Solutions, and prepares personal and small-business returns in Miami in English and Spanish, including 1099 income, Schedule C and filings with an ITIN. Because your Marketplace financial help is reconciled against the income on your federal return, having the same family handle both keeps the two consistent.

Three steps

  1. 1

    Book

Choose a personal or corporate appointment with Simple Tax, in English or in Spanish.

  2. 2

    Bring your documents

Identification, your W-2 and 1099 forms, your Form 1095-A if anyone had a Marketplace plan, and your business records if you file a Schedule C.

  3. 3

    We prepare and file

Your preparer reviews the return with you, checks it against the income on your Marketplace application and files it once you approve.

Self-employed, 1099 and Schedule C

If you drive, clean, build, cut hair or run any small business of your own, what counts is the income left after business expenses. Simple Tax puts that number on a Schedule C and uses the same number on your Marketplace application, so the two agree.

Filing with an ITIN

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number lets you file a federal return when you are not eligible for a Social Security number. Simple Tax prepares returns filed with an ITIN, in English or in Spanish.

Why your return and your subsidy must agree

The advance premium tax credit that lowered your monthly premium is reconciled on your federal return against what you actually earned. If the estimate on your Marketplace application was low, part of the credit may be repaid; if it was high, the difference may come back to you. Having the same family handle both keeps the two numbers in step.

Can I get Marketplace coverage in Miami if I only have an ITIN?

An ITIN alone does not establish eligibility. To enroll through the Marketplace you generally need to be lawfully present in the United States and not have access to other qualifying coverage; many lawfully present immigrants qualify for coverage and for financial help. An ITIN is a tax number, and Simple Tax can file with one. Bring your immigration document and we will check together, free.

My income changes every month. What income do I report?

Report your best reasonable estimate of the household income you expect for the whole year — for self-employment, income after business expenses. If it turns out different, tell us and we update the Marketplace application. Keeping it current reduces surprises when the premium tax credit is reconciled on your federal tax return.

What documents do I need to enroll?

Bring a photo ID, proof of your address, an estimate of your household income for the year and, when it applies, your immigration document. Do not email or upload identification, immigration or tax documents. Bring them to your appointment in Miami, or ask your agent for a secure link.

How do my taxes affect my health insurance subsidy?

Marketplace financial help is an advance premium tax credit based on the annual household income you projected. It is reconciled on your federal tax return. If your actual income was higher, part of the credit may be repaid; if lower, you may receive more. Reporting income changes during the year is what prevents surprises.
